Missing a CRA deadline can mean interest and penalties you could have avoided. Here are the key dates for the rest of 2026 and for the 2027 tax season, when you will file your 2026 return.
For the rest of 2026
- December 15, 2026 – final quarterly instalment payment for individuals who pay by instalments. The other instalment dates are March 15, June 15 and September 15.
- December 31, 2026 – last day to make FHSA contributions that count for 2026, to make charitable donations and pay eligible expenses for 2026 claims, and to sell investments if you want to realize gains or losses in 2026.
Tax season 2027 (for the 2026 tax year)
- End of February 2027 – employers must give employees their T4 slips and file them with the CRA.
- March 1, 2027 – RRSP contribution deadline for the 2026 tax year (60 days after the end of the year).
- April 30, 2027 – filing deadline for most individuals, and the deadline to pay any balance owing, including for self-employed people.
- June 15, 2027 – filing deadline for self-employed individuals and their spouses or common-law partners. Any balance owing is still due April 30.
GST filing deadlines for small businesses
- Monthly or quarterly filers – file and pay one month after the end of each reporting period.
- Annual filers – generally file and pay three months after the end of the fiscal year. Individuals with business income and a December 31 year-end file by June 15 but must pay by April 30.
Corporations
Corporate returns are due within six months of the end of the tax year. Any balance owing is generally due two months after year-end, or three months for eligible Canadian-controlled private corporations claiming the small business deduction.
Tips to stay on track
- Put these dates in your calendar now, with a reminder two weeks before each one.
- Keep slips and receipts together throughout the year.
- If you owe tax, pay by April 30 even if you are self-employed and file later, to avoid interest.
Dates can shift when a deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, so check with the CRA or with us as each deadline approaches.
